Bruce Springsteen
My name is Joe Roberts I work for the state I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville barracks number 8 I always done an honest job as honest as I could I got a brother named Franky and Franky ain't no good Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown Well if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away But when it's your brother sometimes you look the other way Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" 1 I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good Well Franky went in the army back in 1965 I got a farm deferment, settled down, took Maria for my wife But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we were gettin' robbed Franky came home in '68, and me, I took this job Yea we're laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line Man turns his back on his family he ain't no friend of mine Well the night was like any other, I got a call 'bout quarter to nine There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad bleedin' hard from his head there was a girl cryin' at a table and it was Frank, they said Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights Well I must of done one hundred and ten through Michigan county that night It was out at the crossroads, down round Willow bank Seen a Buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said Canadian border five miles from here I pulled over the side of the highway and watched his taillights disappear Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' Nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good | Je m’appelle Joe Roberts je travaille pour l’état Je suis Sergent à la caserne numéro 8 de Perrineville J’ai toujours fait un boulot honnête aussi honnête que j’ai pu J’ai un frère qui s’appelle Frankie, et Frankie c’est de la mauvaise graine Depuis que nous sommes gamins ça c’est toujours terminé de la même façon Je reçois un appel sur la radio Frankie a des ennuis en ville Bon si c’était quelqu’un d’autre, je le bouclerais aussi sec Mais quand c’est votre frère parfois vous regardez autrement Moi et Frankie riant et buvant rien n’est meilleur que sang contre sang A tour de rôle dansant avec Maria pendant que l’orchestre jouait "Night of the Johnson Flood" 1 Je le rattrape quand il s’égare comme le ferait n’importe quel frère L’homme qui tourne le dos à sa famille, il est tout simplement un vaurien Frankie est parti à l’armée en 1965 J’ai eu un sursis pour la ferme, je me suis installé, ai pris Maria comme femme Mais quand les prix du blé ont continué à s’effondrer à tel point que nous étions comme volés Frankie est rentré à la maison en 1968, et moi, j’ai pris ce boulot Moi et Frankie riant et buvant rien n’est meilleur que sang contre sang A tour de rôle dansant avec Maria pendant que l’orchestre jouait "Night of the Johnson Flood" Je le rattrape quand il s’égare lui apprend comment marcher droit L’homme qui tourne le dos à sa famille, ça n’est pas mon ami C’était une nuit comme n’importe quelle autre, j’ai eu un appel vers neuf heures et quart Il y avait du grabuge dans un routier aux limites du Michigan Il y avait un type étendu sur le sol dans un sale état qui saignait beaucoup à la tête Il y avait une fille qui pleurait à une table et ils ont dit que c’était Frankie Alors je suis sorti et ai sauté dans ma voiture et ai mis le gyrophare J’ai bien du rouler à cent dix à travers le comté du Michigan cette nuit là C’était à un carrefour du côté de Willow Bank J’ai vu une Buick avec de plaques de l’Ohio, au volant il y avait Frank Je l’ai pris en chasse sur les routes de ce comté jusqu’à un panneau qui indiquait "Frontière canadienne 5 miles" Je me suis rangé sur le côté de la route et ai regardé ses feux arrière disparaître Ouais moi et Frankie riant et buvant Rien n’est meilleur que sang contre sang A tour de rôle dansant avec Maria pendant que l’orchestre jouait "Night of the Johnson Flood" Je le rattrape quand il s’égare comme le ferait n’importe quel frère L’homme qui tourne le dos à sa famille, il est tout simplement un vaurien |
