Bruce interprète deux chansons (Oh what a beautiful morning et The Ghost of Tom Joad) lors de l'hommage rendu à John Steinbeck. Dans un ambiance intimiste (la salle ne contient que 300 places), Bruce ouvre et termine ce concert, auquel participent aussi Roddy McDowell, EL Doctorow, Terence McNally, Edward Albee et Gary Sinise. Lorsqu'il n'est pas sur scène, le Boss est assis à côté d'Elaine Steinbeck, la veuve du grand romancier (elle est décédé en 2003). A la fin du concert, il lui a dédie The Ghost of Tom Joad.
